How much of NY City property was already financed? Did they see the full sale price or did a good portion go to pay off outstanding debt?

The handling of child abuse allegations
by Landy inthere's a lot of criticism surrounding the jw's handling of chiild abuse within their ranks with a lot of it being well deserved.
but i'm interested to know how people on here think child abuse allegations should be handled.
there's a few scenarios below, the first couple are easy then it gets a bit more complex.

I was never a JW but come from an organization where every adult is required to be a Certified Adult Volunteer. We must attend an 8 hour training session annually to review how to IDENTIFY not investigate all forms of child abuse. Our instructions are we do not care if the state law is mandatory reporting if we suspect emotional, physical or sexual abuse - We Report!!!! Second part of the instructions since some of our adult leaders are MALE -- This is drilled over and over into their heads numerous times throughout the day of training. If one of the girls comes to you and says "I am being abused" You need to find a female adult CAV and turn this girl over to her immediately and get lost. No male adult is to be present under any circumstances. Call authorities immediately. The police and the authorities are far more capable of figuring out, they have TRAINED personnel both in the field of investigation and they have TRAINED personnel to deal with VICTIMS!!!!
From what I have read on this forum JWS have NO clue how to deal with VICTIMS of abuse. The only thing they know how to do is to inflict futher abuse on a victim. AND the very LAST person(s) who should be involved are those Elders.

A very strong 1. I believe in God and I am extremely spiritual. Do not believe in Religion. Was raised Lutheran and walked away at age 50. I believe that all Religions are man made. I was done with men of the cloth lying.
My faith in God and knowing that he was there watching over me has gotten me through many trials in my life.

After joining this forum I have wondered a lot about my conversations with the "Elder". When we first met I made it very clear knowing he was religious and how religious people can sometimes be, I said "I do not ever want to hear your views on the gay community, I am not gay but I am very active in the gay community. If you are not ok with this we need to part company now."
We or I talked a lot about the gay community because I had a lot of gay dads and the majority of my clients were gay. So a lot of the conversations with the "Elder" included things that went on with me and gay men. He never objected to these conversations and seemed to clearly understand why I have a deep love for friends, they were there when my mother and sister never were.

Being a Rude Jerk, It's Awesome!
by Simon inmaybe it's a british thing, but we tend to be polite.
too polite.. even if someone is inconsiderate, we apologize as though we did something wrong.. prime offenders?
people in supermarkets, specifically costco.. they have nice wide isles and yet somehow, for some reason, some idiot will find a way to put their trolley sideways and keep a hand on it while reaching for something, thus blocking the entire isle.. or another favorite ... you're going through the entrance and someone just stops, maybe to answer their phone.. how about you wait in a queue at a checkout for ages and when it's their turn, then they start looking for their purse.. how many times have you thought "idiot" or muttered under your breath?.

Attention all leaders of corporate organisations under threat!
by Half banana inimagine you are on the governing board of a religious organisation with around eight million subscribers and an annual income of approximately a $billion (well it used to be!).
you are about to be handed a mass of legal cases against you for concealing your negligent practice of concealing paedophiles in your congregations---followed by the prospect of a cascade of damning publicity?
do you admit you were wrong and apologise unreservedly?.

Is there a country with zero JWs and zero extradition, that is where the GB should head hide out for the remainder of their life.

by TerryWalstrom inwhich world is this?_________________when the doctor pulled my screaming body out of mom all those 7 decades ago, i landed in a post-wwii world.it was--compared to today's world--an alien planet.. the world i live in today has nothing in common with the world in which i grew up.. there were no cell phones back then--there were black telephones with a dial-tone and an operator who placed your call.
everywhere you found telephone booths!
a call was a nickle.where did all those telephone booths go?i dunno.where did my whole world go?i dunno.. tv sets were huge boxes with tubes and small screens.

Finkelstein,
Yes that tv and the rabbit ears. Have never forgotten Sunday night programs.
Oh and that washing machine. Actually I love antiques and I have seen a few of those in a few shops.

If "the Truth" is the truth, why are witnesses so scared of research?
by stuckinarut2 init is an often asked question i know, but it perplexes me.. if witnesses are so convinced that they have "the truth", why is the act of researching information from external sources so taboo?
didn't the bible itself tell people to "use their powers of reason" and also praised ones like the boreans for researching things they were told??.
seriously, if there is no doubt about the organization being "god's channel" on earth, and it alone having the "truth", surely researching would only enhance such 'facts'?.

Never a JW but when the "Elder" gave me the book on Families to see how I would react. I then I started to ask questions about the JW beliefs he refused to discuss JW beliefs with me. Instead after 5 years just sent me an email that said good bye have a nice life. I just thought that was just so strange that he would not discuss his beliefs.
